Lorna French is the 2008 Pearson playwright in residence
at the New Wolsey Theatre. She is also a past winner of the
Alfred Fagon Award. Positive received a special commendation
in the 2007 Verity Bargate Awards.
Positive tells the stories of two interconnected couples in
modern day South Africa.
Nasi and Sipho can’t agree on Nasi’s calling. Sipho is
concerned that “people will come Nasi, they will want you to
prove it”. Meanwhile Nasi sees it only as “something based on
spirits, ancestors guiding, healing, knowing what is going to
happen, Sangomas protecting and healing”.
Meanwhile, Ben and Lizzie are far away from home and have
only each other to cling to when one thoughtless moment
devastates their lives.
